Prestbury Youth Pantomime

History

Prestbury Youth Group's Pantomime is produced in January each year by a committee of some 20 adult volunteers. Auditions take place in early September and are open to local children aged 11 to 18 years. After the principals, dancers and chorus are chosen. Rehearsals take place every week. The show is performed at the Little Theatre, Lord Street, Macclesfield; the home of Macclesfield Amateur Dramatic's Society (known locally as MADS) in the third week of January. The back cloths, lighting, sound, make-up, catering and front of house are provided as a full theatrical backup by the parents and committee members. The show costs over £10,000 to put on and this is raised through fundraising events, village and local businesses who advertise in the programme and ticket sales.

The first Prestbury Pantomime was Cinderella in 1980 and was produced by local Youth Leader, Gerry Porter and was choreographed by Jean Lightowler who is a former ballet dancer first with Ballet Rambert and then the Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet. The show was performed in the local village school, Dale Brow, Prestbury, Cheshire, England. It was so successful it had to move to larger premises in Mottram-St-Andrew's village hall for its next 6 productions. In 1987 it moved to its present home, the MADS Little Theatre in Lord Street, Macclesfield which seats 190 people.

The past and present Prestbury Pantomime Committee would like to thank the friends and local businesses who support us so loyally over the years. You help us to give the children of Prestbury Pantomime the best possible experience of live theatre. We hope that our successors will continue to support their children with the same enthusiasm
